Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the most cosmopolitan city in the Canary Islands and one of the cities with the best climate in the world with an average temperature of 17º in winter and 25º in summer. Here you can enjoy the beach of Las Canteras, one of the best urban beaches in the world where you can sunbathe or practice sports on the sand, surf, snorkel, dive, canoe...
Three kilometres of coastline that extend in a gentle curve from the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, the Plaza de la Música and the surfing area of La Cícer to La Puntilla, the prelude to the popular neighbourhood of La Isleta.
The urban promenade that accompanies Las Canteras is dotted with numerous bars and restaurants ideal for an aperitif, breakfast, lunch or dinner. This makes the beach, the natural theme park of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, an environment with a lively urban life.
In the historic quarter you will discover Vegueta and Triana, an area of Columbian architecture, with Santa Ana Square and, at either end, the Casas Consistoriales (the first town hall, still today the seat of municipal plenary sessions) and the Cathedral, as well as numerous museums. Vegueta, Triana and the surrounding area are nowadays known for their wide range of restaurants, ideal for visitors to discover the typical local cuisine ('papas arrugadas' (wrinkled potatoes), pork leg, seafood and local produce, Canarian cheeses...), but also for revisiting these dishes from a contemporary perspective.
Vegueta's neighbourhood and the shopping area of Triana grows around the shopping street of Triana. Boutiques, shops, banks, restaurants are distributed among the picturesque streets steeped in history. Don't forget to visit Parque San Telmo, the urban park that revolves around its modernist-style kiosk.
Mercado del Puerto is a place of reference in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Its innovative proposal, which mixes traditional market and places to have lunch or dinner, and the emblematic character of the place, make it the perfect place to discover the products and gastronomy of the Canary Islands.
The many prestigious cultural venues in the capital of Gran Canaria: Pérez Galdós Theatre, Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, Néstor Museum, Miller Building and Castillo de Mata Museum are just some of the venues that will complete your trip to the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
This is where the famous Carnival of Las Palmas is held as well as many cultural events. Here you will also find one of the main bus stations with connections to all the municipalities of the island, and a 10-minute walk to Mesa y López shopping area.
Gabinete Literario ('Literary Cabinet') is located in Plaza de Cairasco, near Calle de Triana, and has one of the most valuable façades in the city. In its elegant French-style interior, cultural events and artistic demonstrations of music, literature and painting are held. Gabinete Literario also houses a collection of oil paintings from the early 20th century by the painter Eliseo Meifrén Roig which, together with the three large canvases that decorate the ceiling by Manuel González Méndez, will not leave you indifferent.
Towering over Las Canteras Beach is Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, named after the Canarian tenor and singing teacher, Alfredo Kraus Trujillo. Designed to be a lighthouse, its architecture is representative of the sea and Las Canteras Beach. This venue, home to the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria, hosts the annual Canary Islands Music Festival and the International Film Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
